IMMIGRATION AND VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR HONG KONG

Visitors to Hong Kong must hold a valid passport. Passports should be valid for at least six months after your planned departure date from Hong Kong. Visas for mainland China can be obtained in Hong Kong. They require one photo and usually take three working days to process. Visas can be obtained through the Visa Office of People's Republic of China, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong, China Travel Service (HK) Ltd, or China International Travel Service HK Ltd.

Departing visitors should note that enhanced security measures are now in effect at Hong Kong International Airport. Visitors are reminded not to carry any sharp objects with a point or blade such as knives, cutters, scissors, razor blades, or household cutlery in carry-on luggage. Instead, visitors should place such items in check-in baggage. Some personal protection devices like the spray mace, while legal in some countries, are prohibited in Hong Kong. To avoid any unnecessary delays, please follow the guidelines from HKIA.

A note for returning Hong Kong residents applying for the Hong Kong Smart ID Card:

Those who are absent from Hong Kong and cannot have their identity cards replaced during the specified call-up period should apply at the Smart Identity Card Centres within 30 days of their return to Hong Kong. There is no need for them to rush back.

In addition to the existing identity cards and documents required for application, they should bring along the proof of their absence such as bank statements, phone bills, tax bills, travel documents... Those who are not permanent residents should also produce their travel documents showing their condition of stay in Hong Kong.

If a person was absent from Hong Kong during the specified call-up period and has not replaced his/her identity card under the Hong Kong Smart Identity Card Replacement Exercise, the applicant should apply for a smart identity card in person at any one of the Registration of Persons Offices within 30 days of his/her return to Hong Kong.
